My Advanced Pronunciation Course is for students who want an intensive course of study to improve their English pronunciation. Students who want a less intensive learning experience can choose my Conversation Classes instead.

Before every Pronunciation Class I will send you a Class Preparation Pack that will include the following:

• A full explanation of the part of pronunciation we are looking at in the class.
• Listening activities so that you can hear examples of the pronunciation points being discussed.
• Exercises to help you understand the pronunciation points.

The Class Preparation Pack is an Adobe Acrobat file with embedded multimedia.

After completing the Class Preparation Pack you will have an online Intensive Class with me based on the content of the Class Preparation Pack.

You can buy a minimum of 4 or 6 credits to get one 30 minute Conversation Class or Intensive Class, though most of my students save money by buying credits in bulk..

These classes cost a little more than Conversation Classes because they involve considerably more work on my part, and form part of an intensive pronunciation course in British English.

The Advanced Pronunciation Course consists of 60 individual classes. Each class has an extensive Class Preparation Pack and 30 minutes of online practice with me using Skype and screen sharing. Each Class Preparation Pack gives you detailed information and listening materials for the particular aspect of British English pronunciation that the class is looking at.

The course begins with a comprehensive look at the varieties of English, the phonetic chart and regional accent variation. Subsequent classes introduce the student to all aspects of pronunciation including, consonant clusters, stress in words and phrases, stressed and unstressed syllables, fluent speech features, speech units, intonation, conversation management using intonation, and tonal modulation in formal settings.

By the end of the course, the student will understand why and how spoken English differs from written English and will be able to reproduce all English pronunciation features. Not only does the student improve their pronunciation markedly, but they also improve their ability to understand spoken English, due to their improved understanding of linking sounds, ellipsis and near ellipsis, missing consonant sounds, syllabic consonants, weak and strong forms, and all other aspects of spoken English.

After completing the work in the Class Preparation Pack, the student then has a class with me online putting what they have learnt into practice. This is the key to improving pronunciation as only a teacher who understands the mechanics of English pronunciation is in a position to correct student errors. I use screen sharing to fully explain any necessary points during the online class. A typical class with the Class Preparation Pack and the online component will take around 60-90 minutes to complete, depending on the student’s ability and motivation.
